Education

The Florida Irrigation Society offers many different courses from Technical Courses to Business Related Courses to meet not only the educational needs in the irrigation industry but provide CEU's to Contractors whom need them for licensing renewal.

Business Courses

The Contract Administration course is designed for the construction subcontractor who wants to further develop their construction administrative skills.  In order for construction subcontractors to effectively work in the construction environment their firm must effectively work with multiple organizations.  This means that subcontracting firms must become as knowledgeable about contract administration as general subcontractors.

The Introduction to Construction Estimating course is designed for the contractor/owner and especially for subcontracting firms who want to develop or polish their estimation skills. This course provides an overview of basic estimation concepts. The course will cover in full basic skills that are required in order to produce a successful estimate. Topics to include skills and disciplines necessary to estimate a job, use of a computer in the estimation process, the benefits of an independent take off, identifying common estimation errors and how to avoid them, calculation of labor, materials, equipment and overhead, and relating actual cost to estimate.

The Personnel and Your Bottom Line course provides the attendee with an overview of personnel issues facing construction contractors, especially those who include a service department. It is intended to help the contract improve profitability by developing the skills necessary to improve personnel performance and safety

The Understanding Financial Statement course provides and overview of the accounting cycle, reading financial statements, and the use of computerized accounting programs.  Topics to include basic accounting concepts recording sales and expenses, the function of account payables, the function of account receivables, processing payroll information, reading profit and loss statement, reading the balance sheet, job costing, and computerized accounting systems.

Technical Courses

The Low Volume Irrigation course will focus on  the increasing emphasis on water conservation as well as the passage of many local ordinances has emphasized the use of low volume irrigation.  The course will serve as an overview of the use, design and installation of low volume irrigation.
