The Florida House of Representatives passed HB 1461 this session that would have eliminated oversight of professional licenses at the state level including our State Irrigation License by peer boards.  Not only would contractors have been impacted but so would other professions such as Landscape Architects, Architects, and Veterinarians.  Replacing the Boards would have been government staff and we all know how that would have gone!  Thanks to FIS members along with thousands of others in other organizations emailing, calling and writing to our State Senators, the bill was killed in the Senate.  The rationale behind the legislation was to reduce government costs but we would have lost control over our own licenses.  FIS will stay on the watch for any repeat of the initiative in 2025 Session.
